    Effect of folate and mecobalamin on hip fractures in patients with stroke.

Translation: 5 milligrams of folate and 1500 micrograms of B12 daily prevented hip fractures 5 times as well as placebo. If you’ve had a stroke and want to do something to prevent a hip fracture, read this study.

Of people over age 50 who fracture a hip, 24% die within one year and 25% require long-term care.

    High-dose (over 400 IU) vitamin E may increase all-cause mortality

Translation: anyone taking over 400 units of vitamin E–in a multivitamin or on its own, synthetic, mixed or natural–should strongly reconsider. This is the 5th major study in 2 years to find the same thing.

    Acetyl-L-carnitine improves pain, nerve regeneration, and vibratory perception in patients with chronic diabetic neuropathy.

Translation: taking this amino acid may help the numbness and tingling/pins and needles of diabetic neuropathy, especially those newly diagnosed.
