Mocha-Almond Wake Up Shake

A solid foundation of calcium gives structure and real oomph to this Mocha-Almond Wake Up Shake recipe and makes your RealAge younger—unfortunately, each glass of low fat (1%) milk makes your RealAge 0.2 days older. (We goofed: all the other recipes in the book make you younger; but all also taste great; when we tried it with our substitute* that makes you younger, it didn’t garner as high ratings—so we included this version as the primary one)(And now we’ve tweaked it to be nondairy if you like as well)

Preparation Time:  5 minutes
Cooking Time:  0 minutes
Servings  4
Serving Size:  8 ounce servings

Ingredients:

2 cups 1% low fat chocolate milk, such as Hood gluten-free, or Organic Valley
1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
2 cups no sugar added frozen coconut dessert, such as So Delicious brand
1/8 teaspoon almond extract
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender container. Cover; blend on high speed until thick and smooth.

Tips:

This shake tastes best the day it’s made: make a new batch tomorrow. Of reduced fat frozen yogurts and ice creams, chocolate and coffee usually taste the best by themselves—their flavors are so multi-layered that your palate often doesn’t miss the fat, even if you’re used to cream, and not trying to change the way foods taste to you. But of course, the coconut milk gives it richness and depth.

Substitutions:

1% low fat chocolate coconut or almond milk may replace the chocolate milk and no sugar added chocolate frozen yogurt may replace the ice cream, and then this snack makes your RealAge younger.
