These foods, when prepared correctly and eaten in the right amounts, help to diminish the risk for stroke:
*Whole grains, especially those rich in soluble fiber
*Vegetables of all kinds
*Fruits of all kinds
*Fish, especially those rich in Omega-3 fatty acids
*Legumes, beans, peas, and soybean products such as tofu

The following foods make a stroke more likely, because they increase its risk factors of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity.

*High saturated and trans fat foods–red and processed meats, whole fat dairy products, and eggs
*Simple sugar foods–candy, ice cream, cookies, sweets
*Salty foods–pickled, cured, salted, processed.
*Alcohol, beyond the limits prescribed for hypertension.
