Osteoarthritis is by far the most common type of arthritis–hip, back, knee and hand are common sites. It is a degenerative process that can be controlled and managed, in many cases, with the right foods at the right time in the right amount. OA affects men more than women up to age 45; by some estimates, 30 million people are affected.

Rheumatoid arthritis is completely different–the joints are inflamed because of problems in the body’s immune system. RA affects women more than men (3:1), and about 2 million people in the U.S.

    Dr. I am taking a class on the correct format to type. I have noticed hands very sore & stiff& notice puffines?? I have bought youre book to find receipes to help,, But I could use youre hepl & advice.’

    Nicole, I’m sorry your hands are sore and puffy. That doesn’t come, normally, from a typing class, so my suggestion would be to see a physician to ask if there is a problem with the joints: it sounds a bit unusual, and your hands (and other joints) should be examined…good luck! JL
